The Foundation of your Website

The basic foundation of any website is what tool you use to create it. There are many options available out there like Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, Publisher, Front Page, and more. The tool I have chosen is Microsoft Front Page 2003. One of the main reasons I like to work with Front Page is its user-friendliness. Front Page gives you the ability to create professional looking websites without having to have a degree in HTML Code. It is straight foreword, yet powerful. It can be used by beginners and experts alike. There are many templates to get you going in the right direction, and they take care of the sometimes complicated aspects of a webpage like forms, Dynamic HTML, ActiveX, User Registration, and much more. If you are looking to create an attention grabbing web site with lots of multimedia capabilities, Front Page 2003 is an excellent tool for you.

To get the most out of Front Page 2003, your web server needs to be a Windows 2003 Server. While Front Page will still function on a Linux server, there are many features that will not; such as Form Templates, User Registration, Active Server Pages, Web Statistics, and MSNBC components. To be able to use these features, make sure that your web host has ASP and .NET capabilities. If you need good Windows server web hosting, check out Host Excellence. They offer a lot of bang for your buck, and their customer service is outstanding. If you choose to go for the more economical Linux server however; IX Web Hosting is a solid choice with excellent support for beginning users. You will find the links to both of these on the resources page.

Should you choose Front Page 2003, you will notice that there is not much in the way of a manual or instructions. I recommend the book "Microsoft Office Front Page 2003 Step by Step". This a good reference to get you started in finding out many of the helpful features that Front Page has to offer. This book explains the elements most commonly used and in my opinion, the ones that you will most likely want to take advantage of in the beginning stages of creating your website.
